"The Feeling" recreates the summer and the intense, visceral friendships you make when your young.
Matt Lambert is a young filmmaker and photographer whose gripping, sensual work has found worldwide acclaim. A Los Angeles native living in Berlin, his craft is colored by his formal training in fine arts and animation, with works across narrative film, experimental documentary, music, video and fashion.
Lambert has a gift for spearheading delicate and moving music videos, all the while focusing on powerful topics such as gender inclusion, diversity, and sexual identify. His music video for Declan McKenna’s “Paracetamol,” which draws on the real life experiences of two 15 year-old Londoners, highlights the themes of friendship, struggle and escape. The emotionally charged pop dance set for Years & Years' "Worship” showcases a fearlessly queer energy. His most awarded work, a long form music video for Mykki Blanco’s “High School Never Ends,” presents a queer version of the William Shakespeare classic. The video screened at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, was shortlisted at the 2016 CICLOPE Festival, was nominated for two 2016 UKMVAs, and won "Best Cinematography in a Music Video" at the 2016 Camerimage Festival.
More recently, Lambert continued his partnership with Mykki Blanco with Out of This World. The i-D webseries follows Blanco as he journeys through Johannesburg, highlighting the untold stories and culture of queer artists, designers, and dancers. Lambert also spearheaded COVERGIRL’s reinvention with “Made in the Mirror,” a spot that announced the make-up brand’s fresh tagline #IAmWhatIMakeUp. The female empowerment piece introduced new COVERGIRLS Ayesha Curry, Issa Rae, Shelina Moreda, Maye Musk, Katy Perry and Massy Arias.
In addition to filmmaking, Lambert maintains an immense love for intimate photography—particularly that which spotlights the nude male body. His photo book “Keim” captures moments from gay youth culture, which he again channeled in his homopunk webzine “Vitium.” More recently, he teamed with Grindr to release "Home," a book highlighting safe spaces for queer people.
Tribeca Film Festival named Lambert one of the ten filmmakers of the future, and Dazed put him on their list of top 100 creative influencers of 2015. Selected clients and publications include Gucci, Givenchy, Patrick Wolf, Hercules and Love Affair, Austra, Channel 4, BBC, i-D, Marc Jacobs, Mykki Blanco, Dazed, Fader and Vogue. In 2016, Matt represented PRETTYBIRD at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity panel "Make Some Room," a collaboration with SapientNitro that discussed the entertainment industry's lack of inclusion and access.
“The landscape of how we tell stories has changed,” says Lambert, “and it’s critical to integrate that old school, romantic way of existing into the digital space.”
