Where do new technologies stand in fashion and art? Where are we now? Why and how have new technologies changed fashion and art? Where are we going? What are the next technologies? How do we see the future?

Viktoria Modesta is here with us. She will explain why and how new technologies are important to her work, and what is her vision of the future. We will also have an expert expound various forms of technology in fashion, and we will find out what we can look forward to in the years to come.

Viktoria Modesta, bionic pop artist, creative director and futurist.

Describing her work as post-human and post-disability, she bridges
performance art, music and fashion with technology, science and medicine.

She first gave us a fresh and glamorous perspective of disability in a cultural
content when she performed as the Snow Queen during the closing ceremony
of Paralympics 2012 wearing a diamond encrusted prosthetic. Following that,
she starred in and oversaw the creative direction of a massively successful
viral video ‘Prototype’ for the Channel4 #BornRisky campaign.

Viktoria's futuristic approach on “the body as art concept” got her selected as
a Director’s Fellow at MIT Media Lab which led her to collaborate on a more
academic level with artists working with technology and science, architects
and multiple cultural institutions worldwide.

Abbey Tate, Experience Director, Technicolor Experience Center

Abbey Tate is a creator, artist, mover, and shaker inspired by all things immersive. She currently serves as the experience director for the Technicolor Experience Center, where she is responsible for curating content, educating the community, and helping to bring stories to life.

Prior to her work with Technicolor, Abbey managed events and submissions for the New Frontier program at the Sundance Institute. She is currently developing an array of pioneering VR experiences with top creators across music, education and entertainment.

Rem D. Koolhaas, founder and creative director of United Nude

United Nude, a footwear focused designer brand. Namesake with his uncle, the world-renowned architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA, Rem D. was also trained as an architect.

Heartbreak was the prompt for Rem's entrance into shoemaking history, and for giving birth to the global company behind some of today's most forward-thinking and innovative architectural footwear designs, collaborations and concept stores.

United Nude (UN) was established in 2003, together with Galahad Clark (a seventh generation shoemaker) and immediately acclaimed for its inaugural 'Möbius' shoe. Each of UN’s designs is a reinterpretation of an architectural object or seen as an open invitation to push the edges of form, movement, colors and materials.

The brand is revered for pushing the boundaries of footwear design through limited edition releases in collaboration with high profile creatives such as Iris van Herpen, Zaha Hadid, Ross Lovegrove, Linda Farrow, Issey Miyake, etc.

Based in Los Angeles, Rem remains interminably curious and adventurous, always exploring the future through design. A prime example is the concept Lo Res Car, which was featured in Rich The Kid ft Kendrick Lamar’s “New Freezer” video, and won a Wallpaper* Magazine Design Award in 2016.

Lisa Messeri, Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Yale University.

Her research explores the relationship between science, technology, and society. She is currently living in LA and working with the VR community here to understand the transformative potential of immersive technology. How can the storytelling expertise of Hollywood elevate the experiences being built for these new devices? While in town, she is a visiting scholar at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and a scholar in residence at the Technicolor Experience Center.

Lisa’s previous work was with planetary scientists, studying alongside astronomers at MIT and NASA. Her book, Placing Outer Space, details how scientists transform planets into worlds and change our understanding of our place in the universe. She has also written for The New York Timesand Slate and been featured in Wired and The Guardian.

 

Panels begin with a fashion film screening and end with a 10 minutes Q&A session.
